The City of Wildwood adopted its Parks and Recreation Action Plan in 2007. This plan was created by a citizen committee and adopted by the Planning and Zoning Commission and thereafter endorsed by the City Council. The process to create this plan involved significant public input and analysis of the City’s original Parks and Recreation Plan, which had been adopted in 2001. The 2007 Action Plan was intended to identify a small number of attainable goals that had been larger ideas outlined in the 2001 plan. The 2007 Action Plan outlined four (4) goals, and a number of recommendations within each goal, as a way to achieve them within the next ten (10) years. Some of the smaller items had short-term deadlines, while others noted it would take years to achieve. These goals included:

  1. Programming – Partner with the other providers to create the greatest range of programming opportunities possible for residents, beginning with the Wildwood Family YMCA, the Pond Athletic Association, the Rockwood School District, and the St. Louis Community College.
  2. Facilities – Expand current commitments to development of all types of trail systems (pedestrian, bicycle, equestrian) in the City of Wildwood, which are intended to link all public park spaces and population centers together, along with implementing the recently adopted “Access and Mobility Plan.”
  3. Acquisition – Identify and prioritize locations for future park land acquisitions, with the first action to be the acquisition of a parcel of ground, of a size to accommodate a community park, within the central area of the City (proximity to
State Route 100 and State Route 109 and environs).
  4. Funding – Implement the necessary steps to promote the presentation of a park sales tax to the voters of Wildwood, no later than the November 2008 General Election, for use in the development of parks facilities and recreation programs, to include staffing, maintenance, and other expenses.

Now with the Action Plan ten (10) years old, it is time to review and update this plan. As part of this update process, the Department of Planning and Parks has created a website specific to the City’s parks and recreation efforts. The three (3) main sections relate to Parks, Trails, and Events. Information is still being added to these areas, so check back often.  Additionally, the website contains a blog that we are hoping you’ll view and regularly respond to with comments. Department staff will be posting images and ideas relative to parks and recreation. These posts will also include questions and an opportunity for everyone to comment. We want to hear from you! The website can be found at:  Scroll down past the three (3) main sections to see, and participate, in the blogs. There are already several stories out there to get the conversation started.

*** This Saturday, July 8, 2017 ***

New Location - In Front of City Hall - 16860 Main Street

The City’s Farmers Market officially opened its 2017 Season on May 13th. The market will now be open every Saturday, through the fall, starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until 12:30 p.m. Returning managers of the market, Rene’ and George Sackett, continue to promote a “producers only” type of facility, with an emphasis on locally-grown, produced, or made products being offered. The intent of this type of "producers only" market is to foster an atmosphere that provides its customers with items they can trust using in their homes and produce they can feel good about eating!
As always, the Wildwood Farmers Market continues to be the location where you can obtain the freshest produce, baked goods, and other items of interest in west St. Louis County and many of the vendors from past years are here again. Along with those vendors who have served you, and many residents, for the past eight (8) years, new participants are here in 2017 as well. Along with the vendors, there are always refreshments, food, and music to round out the atmosphere and create a great and fun place to visit.
