Town Center Project Updates

The Town Center Area is changing with the many new projects that are underway within its boundary. In the last addition of the Wildwood Gazette, all of these projects were briefly described and identified on a map in terms of their individual locations in this area. The projects are primarily residential in nature and will offer buyers a range of options in terms of sizes, designs, and locations. Overall, the number of new dwellings that are available at this time already exceeds three hundred (300) in total. Many different developers are also involved in these residential projects, which provides anyone looking for a new home ample choices in Wildwood.
The City’s Department of Planning is working on a new section for the City’s website to provide regular, and always available, updates on new projects throughout the whole of Wildwood. While that construction on this section is nearing completion, the Department has been asked by one of its e-news readers to provide more regular updates on these new projects breaking ground in Wildwood. Regardless of the advancements to the City's website, if you should have any questions, please feel free to contact the Department of Planning at (636) 458-0440.

Stonecrest Senior Center

Stonecrest Senior Center is a privately-operated assisted and memory care facility authorized by the State of Missouri for up to 95 units. The building, which is under construction at this time, will be three  (3) stories in height and have a total square footage of 75,000 square feet. Access to the property is via Plaza Drive. One (1) of the requirements associated with the rezoning of this property was the inclusion of commercial spaces available to the public for the future business that will be located there (on its east side of the building, facing the City’s small public plaza). These commercial spaces will house future businesses that complement the senior care center, but also Wildwood residents and visitors to the area.

The Villages of Bright Leaf

Wildwood's largest residential development to date, in Town Center, has commenced site preparation, which will lead to grading and construction. This development is located between Taylor Road and State Route 109, on the north side of State Route 100. Given its prominent location along this heavily-travelled arterial roadway, the area will change in appearance. For more information about this development, please click on www.cityofwildwood.com/brightleaf.

Asks Public Not to Plant Invasive Bradford Pear Trees
The invasive Bradford Pear Tree can cause problems for Missouri native plants and animals.

JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri  – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages homeowners and landscapers to avoid planting Callery pear trees this spring.

Better known as Bradford pears, the Callery pear tree is an invasive species known to multiply quickly and crowd out Missouri native plants. While it’s been a popular landscaping tree for decades, cultivated forms have spread aggressively throughout the state. “Different varieties of Bradford pear trees were planted close to each other, which allowed them to cross pollinate and take over natural areas,” said Forestry Field Program Supervisor Russell Hinnah. “But they’re also a poor landscaping choice because they don’t do well in storms, often losing limbs or splitting apart.”

Stopping the spread means selecting alternate trees for yards and forested property. “The best plan is to select a native species to Missouri, and there are several great options,” said Hinnah. “Serviceberry trees produce similar showy white blooms in the spring and have small red fruits that attract wildlife.” Eastern Redbuds and Missouri’s state tree, the Flowering Dogwood, are also good alternatives. The Redbud Tree grows quickly with eye-catching lavender flowers in the spring. Dogwoods do best in shady areas, but can be somewhat difficult to grow.

To learn more about native trees that are great for landscaping, visit MDC’s website at https://mdc.mo.gov/trees-plants/tree-care. “Missouri’s Urban Trees” booklet (http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZwB) is a great guide for finding the right tree for the right place.

Woods Road Bridge Replacement Project
- City of Wildwood -

The City’s contractor, Gershenson Construction, is about to begin a project to replace the first bridge west of State Route 109, on Woods Road. The project will replace the existing, substandard bridge with a new structure consisting of two (2) 12-foot driving lanes, with an 8 foot sidewalk separated from the driving lanes by concrete barrier wall. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 24, 2017, weather permitting. Woods Road is scheduled to be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC at the bridge location beginning at 7:00 a.m., on MAY 1, 2017, and will remain closed until AUGUST 15, 2017. Detour signs and other advance warning signs will be in place during construction.
Rockwoods Reservation is expected to open the Glencoe Road bridge that is currently closed near its south entrance prior to May 1.  If the Glencoe Bridge is not completed, the Woods Road closure will be delayed as necessary, so that both bridges are not closed at the same time. For more information, please click this link: www.cityofwildwood.com/675/Woods-Road-Bridge-Replacement.
