Wildwood Arbor Day - Be Brave 5K Run/Walk -
An Evening Event!

Hello Wildwood!!! This is your personal invitation to participate in the 3rd Annual Wildwood Arbor Day - Be Brave 5K Run/Walk on the evening of April 28, 2017!! Notice the name of the event has changed slightly from the previous two (2) years of being called the Wildwood Arbor Day Tree Hugger 5K. While the run/event is still meant to acknowledge Arbor Day and Wildwood's reputation of loving trees, this year organizers are donating all proceeds to the Special Olympics of Missouri!! Everything else remains the same!!! The Arbor Day - Be Brave 5K Run/Walk is a fabulous family event!! Sign the entire family up and start your weekend off with a great Friday evening run or walk!!! Enjoy music, with a DJ from Allegro Entertainment, feast on pizza and salad, after your run or walk, and enjoy the refreshments!!!
The run starts and finishes at LaSalle Springs Middle School (3300 State Highway 109). It begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. Participants will travel on the asphalt Hamilton-Carr Trail, the Al Foster Memorial Trail, and a very short distance on a regular roadway. Runners/Walkers will travel alongside the Meramec River and cross a 194 ft. bridge, at a time when the sunset should be perfect. And don’t forget ... the tunnel!! The course is marked. Awards will be given three (3) deep, in ten (10) year age groups, and to the top three (3) overall male and female runners. The overall winner in the male and female categories will win a fabulous gift card to a local plant nursery!! After all, the event is about Arbor Day!! Oh, did we mention the shirts given to all registered runners??? THEY ARE FABULOUS!!! Those who preregistered before April 7, 2017 are guaranteed a shirt in their chosen size, but there should be enough for everyone!!! We are not kidding!!! You will want to register for the run/walk, just to get a shirt!!! The main goal, however, is just to have fun and raise money for a great cause!!! So, how do you get registered?? There are several ways:

  1. The recommended way is online at https://register.chronotrack.com/r/26139  or,
  2. Get an paper application from the City of Wildwood (at City Hall or we will e-mail you one) or,
  3. At the race site between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

This is a great 5K, a tremendous way to begin the weekend, a very nice family event, delicious food and drink, good music, acknowledges Arbor Day and the beautiful trees in our City, and all proceeds benefit the Missouri Special Olympics. Come on!! Enjoy an evening among the trees!!!!  You will love it!!! Guaranteed!! Questions or more information? Call Amanda or Gary at 636-458-0440 or via e-mail at Amanda@cityofwildwood.com or gary@cityofwildwood.com.

The Garden Society of Wildwood - Come and Join the Fun

The Garden Society of Wildwood (GSW) is comprised of members from the West County Area interested in sharing and increasing their knowledge of gardening, both flowering and vegetable. Members typically meet in the morning on the second Monday of the month. Meetings can be comprised of outside presenters, site visits, or member speakers, some of whom have reached Master Gardener status.

The objectives of the GSW are three fold: (1.) to protect, beautify and learn about the environment, (2.) to enjoy the friendship of fellow gardeners, and (3.) to collectively provide charitable support to local non-profit organization(s) involved in gardening. New members and guests are always welcome.

If you would like more information, or would like to see our list of meeting activities for 2017, please visit our Facebook Page "The Garden Society of Wildwood" or contact Fran Komar at fkomar@wildblue.net.
