Back to School Party – Friday, August 12, 2016 - Tonight

The 2016 Wildwood Back to School Party is scheduled for tonight, Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Wildwood Town Center Plaza. The Back to School Party is a great night for the kids to party and play one last time before hitting the books for another year. This year’s activities include a variety of bounce houses and a real rock climbing wall! Babaloo will provide music and entertainment for the young kids beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending at approximately 7:30 p.m., when the music will switch over to some adult sounds by the group Fanfare! Of course there will be the usual complimentary hot dogs, kettle korn, snow cones, water, and soft drinks.
Bring a lawn chair, and enjoy Babaloo and Fanfare!!! It sure to be a great time for the whole family from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.!

Entertainment for Kids

The 2016 Celebrate Wildwood Event will take place from August 26, 2016 through August 28, 2016 in Wildwood Town Center. For the detailed weekend schedule, visit www.celebratewildwood.com! There will be no shortage of entertainment for kids of all ages at the Celebrate Wildwood Event! Children’s activities will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Some of the major attractions include:

Celebrate Wildwood: Concerts, Food, and Refreshments

One of the major highlight's of the Celebrate Wildwood Event is all of the musical entertainment. There are several acts throughout the weekend and there will be something for everyone!  The first performance of the weekend will be the 399th U.S. Army Band, on Friday, August 26, starting at 6:45 p.m., and will be followed by an incredible fireworks display provided by Meridian Waste Services. Please take note that the stage will be located at the end of Main Street this year, next to City Hall.  

On Saturday, August 27th, the Back Street Cruisers will be jamming from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30p.m. and will provide the tunes while you check out the Car Show on Main Street.  On Saturday evening, the Ralph Butler Band will be performing starting at 6:45 p.m., followed by yet another fireworks display! 

The final musical act of the weekend will be Teddy McCready, performing some easy listening music at the Art Festival on the upper level of the parking garage on Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Keep in mind that the Food Court and Wine/Beer Garden will be open with a wide variety of delicious food and refreshments available during all of these performances!  You can find the Food Court and Wine/Beer Garden on the upper level of the parking garage all weekend. Some of the items that will be available for your enjoyment include:  hand-shaken lemonade, kettle korn, chicken wings, BBQ, soft pretzels, cinnamon roasted pecans and almonds, fish sandwiches, adult snow cones, kabobs, Dippin’ Dots, pork rinds, soft drinks, wine, beer and more!  So bring a lawn chair and come join us!  We’ll see you there!

Celebrate Wildwood: Art Festival

The 2016 Art Festival will be a major attraction of the Celebrate Wildwood Weekend Event, boasting 50+ artist booths of beautiful, one-of-a-kind art! Everything from paintings and photography, to jewelry and ceramics, will be available for your viewing pleasure and purchase! The 2016 Art Festival will take place from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Saturday, August 27, 2016, and from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., on Sunday, August 28, 2016. The Art Festival will be held on the upper level of the public parking garage, next to the Wildwood Hotel.

Celebrate Wildwood: Veterans’ Appreciation Tent

The Veterans’ Tent will be a fantastic place to visit during your time spent at Celebrate Wildwood! This air-conditioned tent will host a wide variety of veterans groups and organizations who will be eager to tell you stories from their time in service and show you memorabilia from their honored service to the United States of America. Represented in the tent will be:

Celebrate Wildwood: Like Parades? 
Well Come and Join In!  

This year’s Founders’ Day Parade will be a great family event to the start of a long weekend of activities in Town Center, which celebrates the City's 21st Anniversary. Heading this year's parade will be the Lafayette High School Marching Band and many other great participants. Want to be a part of this event? Spaces remain in the parade line-up, so you can still enter. Here are some ideas for parade entries…

  • Clubs and organizations – let people know about you!
  • Neighborhoods – create a friendly rivalry between friends in other neighborhoods - bragging rights and prizes are on the line!

  • Sports teams

  • Individuals/families – do some type of anniversary theme, since this year is the City’s 21st Anniversary

Celebrate Wildwood: Founders’ Car Show

One of the fun attractions of the City’s three day Celebrate Wildwood Event, which this year recognizes its 21st Anniversary, is the always popular and fun Founders' Car Show. This year’s show is planned for Saturday, August 27, 2016, and registration begins at 10:00 a.m. and runs through 12:00 p.m. (noon). Great awards are planned in expanded categories from 2015 and everyone can enjoy all of the other activities and great food and beverages that are planned this day as well. Providing the right mood for the Car Show and the great entries will be the Back Street Cruisers, which play the best music for enthusiasts and participants alike. If you are interested in registering for the car show or for more information, please click the following link - http://www.cityofwildwood.com/568/Car-ShowRegistration fee is $15.00, with all proceeds benefiting charity.

Following the Car Show, a car cruise is planned, from the event grounds in Town Center Area, then along many of the City’s most beautiful rural roads, to Wildwood Community Park, which is located at 2153 Highway 109 (but you will enter from State Route 100), where a BBQ dinner will be waiting. There is no charge for the car cruise and all participants are welcome. For more specific information on the car cruise, and the Car Show, please contact jgrag@sbcglobal.net.

Need Service Hours or Do You Like to Volunteer?

The Celebrate Wildwood 21st Anniversary Event is only two weeks away and volunteers are needed to help with the Art Festival, Car Show, and other elements. Early Childhood Recreation Program – Meet the Trains!

Registration will open on Monday, August 15, 2016 for the September Early Childhood Recreation Program – Meet the Trains!  This event will take place at the local WF&P Railroad, on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.   You and your child (between ages 2-5) will ride the mini train in Glencoe, along the scenic Meramec River, and then enjoy a treat, courtesy of the City of Wildwood.  This program is only held for two sessions on a single day and there are limited spots, so sign up early!  Go to www.cityofwildwood.com/programs to sign up starting on this Monday!

Calendar Contest Voting is Underway!

Voting began on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 for the 2017 City of Wildwood Calendar Photo Contest. Go to cityofwildwood.com, along with the City’s Facebook, and Twitter Pages, for voting details.  Voting will end on Thursday, August 25, 2016.

Pavilion Rentals

Despite summer coming to an end and kids returning to school, the upcoming Fall Season will offer many delights for outdoor events and to enjoy the colors and cooler temperatures of this season. Looking for an outdoor venue to hold your family reunion or homecoming event this fall? The City of Wildwood has three (3) beautiful park pavilions available for your upcoming events. 
Anniversary Park and Old Pond School Park have great outdoor pavilions available for your family and friends to join you on your special celebrations. The pavilions at Anniversary Park and Old Pond School hold up to thirty (30) people. The parks have playground equipment and also provide picnic tables.

The City's new Community Park has a pavilion, with convenient restrooms a part of it, that seats over one hundred (100). Nearby is the all-inclusive playground and the great outdoors!

Wildwood Historical Society - August Program

Society president, Lisa Kelpe, will present Show-Me Missouri, a celebration of our State’s 195th Birthday. There might even be some cupcakes to help celebrate! We’ll learn fun facts and stories from all over the State and its past. This program is a great way to learn some more things about Missouri that you might have never known.

Be Part of the Wildwood Family YMCA Cycling Club!  

This group was developed in partnership with Trailnet, with the goal of providing additional opportunities for group rides in Wildwood and other parts of the West County Area and expand local interest in cycling. Rides are for ages 18 and up, except that those under 18 can participate with a signed parental consent.  This is a "no drop" group, and open to cyclists of all abilities. A YMCA Membership is not a requirement to participate.

2016 Farmers Market in Wildwood


The City’s Farmers Market, which is located in the Town Center Plaza (221 Plaza Drive), officially opened its 2016 Season on May 21, 2016. The market is now open every Saturday through the fall, from 8:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. Returning managers of the market, Rene’ and George Sackett, continue to promote a “producers’ only” type of facility, with an emphasis on locally-grown, produced, or made products being offered. The intent of this type of market is to create an atmosphere that caters to the desires and needs of its customers here in Wildwood, with the best varieties available, and products you can trust and feel good about eating or using in your home.

As always, the Wildwood Farmers Market continues to be the location where you can obtain the freshest produce, vegetables, baked goods, and other items of interest in west St. Louis County and many of the vendors from past years are here again. Along with those vendors who have served you, and many residents, for the past seven (7) years, new participants are here in 2016, as well. Along with the vendors, there are always refreshments, food, and music to round out the atmosphere and create a great and fun place to visit!
So, remember, to visit the Wildwood Farmers Market, every Saturday, through the fall, with plenty of convenient parking right next to it. Come on out and meet the market managers and make it a morning in Wildwood. City Council Activity from its Meeting of August 8, 2016

  • A public hearing was held regarding – P.Z. 1-16 Old Towne Parc, Mike Whalen, Whalen Custom Homes, Inc., 338 South Kirkwood Road, Suite 103, Kirkwood, Missouri 63122 – A request for a change in zoning from the NU Non-Urban Residence District to the R-3 10,000 square foot Residence District on a 1.4 acre tract of land consisting of four (4) lots of record, all being located on the east side of Center Avenue, south of Manchester Road (Locator Numbers: 24V510232, 24V510221, 24V510166, and 24V510089/Street Addresses: 17020, 17026, and 17030 Manchester Road and 2612 Center Avenue). Proposed Use: A total of four (4) single family dwellings on individual lots. (Ward - Eight) The City Council authorized the Department of Planning to prepare the necessary legislation to approve this request.

  • A public hearing was held regarding - P.Z. 10-16 City of Wildwood Planning and Zoning Commission, c/o Department of Planning, 16860 Main Street, Wildwood, Missouri 63040 – A request to review and consider amendments to the City of Wildwood’s Zoning Ordinance – Chapter 415 of the City of Wildwood Municipal Code – for all of its “R” Residence Districts zoning designations (Chapter 415 – Sections 110 through 160), including Chapter 415.090 NU Non-Urban Residence District,  thereby adding  new language to prohibit the installation of impervious surfaces and other improvements in the side yard setbacks, which are not considered structures under the Zoning Ordinance’s definition of the same. (Wards – All) The City Council authorized the Department of Planning to prepare the necessary legislation to approve this request.

  • Approved BILL #2201 – Amending Sections of the Wildwood Municipal Code and creating new Chapters prohibiting sexual misconduct, providing regulations pertaining to the location of sexually oriented business, and other matters pertaining thereto. (Wards – All)

  • Approved BILL #2205 – Authorizing the Mayor of the City of Wildwood, Missouri, to execute a contract on behalf of the City of Wildwood with L. F. Krupp Construction, Inc., for construction of the Fox Creek Road Bridge Replacement Project, including traffic control and other incidental items as shown on construction drawings and specifications. (Ward - Six)

  • Approved RESOLUTION #2016-20 - Authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement with CB Engineering, Inc., d/b/a Cochran, for the design of bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements on State Route 109, State Route 100, and Taylor Road within the City of Wildwood. (Wards – One, Three, Five, Seven, and Eight)

  • Approved RESOLUTION #2016-21 - Authorizing a purchase order on behalf of this community with Gaehle Contracting Services, for the 2016 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event (Wards - All).

  • Approved RESOLUTION #2016-22 – Authorizing the City Administrator to authorize a purchase order to the benefit of First Student (Washington) for shuttle services in association with the 2016 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event. (Wards – All)

  • Approved RESOLUTION #2016-23 - Authorizing a purchase order on behalf of this community with Portable Water Closet, LLC, for the 2016 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event (Wards - All).

  • Approved RESOLUTION #2016-24 - Authorizing the Mayor of the City of Wildwood, Missouri to execute an agreement with St. Louis Home Fires BBQ Bash LLC. for the organization and management of the 2016 Wildwood BBQ Bash Event in the Wildwood Town Center Plaza Area. (Wards - All)

  • Receive & FilePond-Grover Loop Road Committee Recommendation Packet (Ward – Five) - The City Council made a motion to accept the Recommendation Report from the Pond-Grover Loop Road Committee, which recommended the extension of the roadway, and to authorize the Department of Planning to prepare the necessary legislation. The vote of the City Council was a tie vote of 8 to 8. Mayor Bowlin voted NO, breaking the tie, thus the motion failed.

Our Parks and Trail Facilities

Over the past few months, the City has experienced vandalism at some of its park and trail facilities. The St. Louis County Police Department - Wildwood Precinct is quick to respond to these problems and thoroughly investigates all of them. However, the damage is done and the cost, in some instances, to repair or replace these facilities is significant. You can help! If you see something suspicious or notice graffiti, please contact the Department of Planning and Parks at (636) 458-0440, during normal business hours, or the St. Louis County Police Department - Wildwood Precinct at (636) 458-9194 anytime thereafter. If it is an emergency, please call 911. Your help will ensure our facilities in Wildwood are protected and repaired, when needed, to be safe and functional for us all. 

Park and Trail Memorial Program

The City of Wildwood is pleased to offer a Park and Trail Memorial Program intended for residents to honor and commemorate the memory of a loved one or close friend. The City is offering three (3) different options that can be placed in a number of different active or passive park/trail locations in the City. Alt Road Closure in Eureka, Missouri

The contractor for the City of Eureka, Missouri has closed Alt Road, between Thunder Valley Drive and Forby Road, as of Tuesday, May 31, 2016.  A signed detour route is in place and local traffic will be able to access Alt Road, at Thunder Valley Drive and Wren Meadow Drive. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately two (2) months. E-Newsletter – An Excellent Way To Be ‘In the Know’

The City of Wildwood would like to thank all of the subscribers to the e-newsletter for your interest in receiving it and hopes you find this weekly publication to be very informative and interesting.  It has been a major goal of the City to enhance citizen communications and input, and it hopes the e-newsletter has been an effective communication tool. However, the City is only reaching a small portion of the population and would like to reach many more of our citizens.  While not everyone wishes to receive yet another weekly e-mail, it is likely many citizens are unaware that the City’s weekly e-newsletter exists. The Shoeman Water Project Shoe Drive Continues 
at Wildwood City Hall

Thanks to everyone who has donated shoes, boots, and sandals to the Shoeman Water Project.  Donation boxes are located at City Hall, 16860 Main Street, both on the 1st and 2nd Floor Foyers.  We appreciate everyone’s support of this worthwhile organization.  To learn more about the Shoeman Water Project, visit www.shoemanwater.org/.


Larger Recycling Carts Are Available to Residents
"Still Some Available"

If you find the 65 gallon cart to be too small for your weekly recyclables, please call Meridian Waste Services, at (314) 291-3131, to request a larger recycling cart.  Meridian will replace your 65 gallon recycling cart, with a new 95 gallon recycle cart AT NO CHARGE (the old carts cannot be utilized for anything, but recycling, and will be redistributed to those needing the smaller carts).

American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal.  Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist.  All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal.  US Flags should never be placed in the trash. 

Operation Clean Stream Registration is Now Open!

The Open Space Council's 49th Annual Operation Clean Stream is right around the corner. In 2015, nearly 2,000 citizen volunteers braved the wet weather to clean up nearly 500 miles of waterway in the Meramec River Watershed. Volunteers worked 5,778 hours and pulled 1,347 tires, 13,975 pounds of metal, and 428 cubic yards of trash from the river. Please consider joining these volunteers this year, as the Open Space Council anticipates another successful yclean-up of  Missouri's open spaces!
