The City’s Farmers Market, which is located in the Town Center Plaza (221 Plaza Drive), officially opened its 2016 Season on May 21, 2016. The market is now be open every Saturday through the fall, from 8:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. Returning managers of the market, Rene’ and George Sackett, continue to promote a “producers’ only” type of facility, with an emphasis on locally-grown, produced, or made products being offered. The intent of this type of market is to create an atmosphere that caters to the desires and needs of its customers here in Wildwood, with the best varieties available, and products you can trust and feel good about eating or using in your home.

As always, the Wildwood Farmers Market continues to be the location where you can obtain the freshest produce, vegetables, baked goods, and other items of interest in west St. Louis County and many of the vendors from past years are here again. Along with those vendors who have served you, and many residents, for the past seven (7) years, new participants are here in 2016, as well. Along with the vendors, there are always refreshments, food, and music to round out the atmosphere and create a great and fun place to visit!
So, remember, to visit the Wildwood Farmers Market, every Saturday, through the fall, with plenty of convenient parking right next to it. Come on out and meet the market managers and make it a morning in Wildwood. Please feel free to contact the market managers, Rene’ and George Sackett, at marketmaster@wildwoodfarmersmarket.org, with any questions or suggestions, and visit www.wildwoodfarmersmarket.org for updates throughout the season.

This program provides preventative maintenance and helps to maintain property values in these locations. At the end of the Missouri Legislative Session, which concluded last Friday, new legislation passed both the Senate and House, altering the distribution of the 1% St. Louis County Sales Tax to the benefit of only seven (7) municipalities in St. Louis County, based upon those municipalities receiving more of the sales tax revenue collected from businesses in their respective jurisdictions.  Wildwood, along with sixty-five (65) other municipalities would see a decrease in sales tax revenue from this legislation.  It has been heavily driven by Senator Dave Schatz, who represents Wildwood, Chesterfield, Eureka and Pacific, but who supports Chesterfield receiving more sales tax revenue at the expense of the other St. Louis County municipalities he represents.

The Bill now awaits Governor Nixon’s approval, and many area municipalities are preparing for the worst. "It would be a disappointing day for the citizens of Wildwood and many other municipalities in St. Louis area," said Wildwood Mayor Jim Bowlin. He went on to say “The act will deprive St. Louis County municipalities of the ability to have predictability in their budgeting.”  If approved, the legislation would go into effect on January 1, 2017, and is estimated to result in a loss of revenue to the City of Wildwood in excess of $125,000 annually.

Legislation for changes to the St. Louis County sales tax distribution formula have been proposed for many years, but until this year have not reached the Governor’s desk.  With the passage of legislation this session, many State legislators have stated that they won’t revisit the issue again in the foreseeable future.  However, “the fact is no one can guarantee Wildwood and all the cities affected by this action that we won’t be right back here in a year or so,” Bowlin added.
