Did You Miss Something Last Week?

If you are reading this week's e-newsletter, you will understand the question. Last week, although prepared and scheduled for delivery, the e-newsletter did not send. It appears the new module that had been provided by the City's website host had a few bugs, so our apologies.

Recycling Event on May 7, 2016

On Monday, May 9, 2016, the Wildwood City Council will be considering the adoption of an Economic Development Plan for the City of Wildwood. This matter is scheduled for discussion at the 6:00 p.m. City Council Work Session, followed by consideration of legislation adopting the Plan at the 7:30 p.m. Regular City Council Meeting.

Over the course of the past year, the City's Economic Development Task Force has been developing this plan, in cooperation with the economic development consulting firm Houseal Lavigne, with the purpose of identifying opportunities to complete the vision for the Town Center and promote economic growth throughout the City.

At its April 12, 2016 Meeting, the City's Economic Development Task Force endorsed the proposed Economic Development Plan, and at its April 19, 2016 Meeting, the City's Planning/Economic Development/Parks Standing Committee endorsed the proposed Economic Development Plan as well.

Please view the following link to review the proposed Economic Development Plan:

Please send any comments regarding the plan to Ryan S. Thomas, City Administrator, by e-mail to ryan@cityofwildwood.com, or in writing to Wildwood City Hall, 16860 Main Street, Wildwood, MO 63040. You may also provide oral comments at the Regular City Council Meeting, under Public Participation, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016.

Public Comment Period Extended
for the Proposed Deletion of the Callahan Property from the National Priorities List (NPL)

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced this week that it has extended the public comment period for the proposed deletion of the Callahan Property (a sub-site of the Ellisville Superfund Site) from the National Priorities List (NPL).  Comments will continue to be accepted until Wednesday, May 18, 2016, and should be sent via e-mail to Laura Price at price.laura@epa.gov [note: the online site for posting comments is no longer being used for the extended comment period].
The City of Wildwood has gone on record in opposition of any such consideration to delete any sub-site of the Ellisville Superfund Site from the NPL, until such time that the public health risks have been abated.

2016 Farmers Market in Wildwood Opens on May 21, 2016

The City’s Farmers Market, which is located in the Town Center Plaza (221 Plaza Drive), will officially open its 2016 Season on Saturday, May 21, 2016. The market is every Saturday, through the fall, and opens at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 12:30 p.m. Returning managers of the market, Rene’ and George Sackett, continue to promote a “producers’ only” type of facility, with an emphasis on locally-grown, produced, or made products being offered. The intent of this type of market is to create an atmosphere that caters to the desires and needs of its customers here in Wildwood, with the best varieties available, and products you can trust and feel good about eating or using in your home.
As always, the Wildwood Farmers Market continues to be the location where you can obtain the freshest produce, vegetables, baked goods, and other items of interest in west St. Louis County and many of the vendors from past years are here again. Along with those vendors who have served you, and many residents, for the past seven (7) years, new participants are here in 2016 as well. Along with the vendors, there are always refreshments, food, and music to round out the atmosphere and create a great and fun place to visit.
So, remember, to visit the Wildwood Farmers Market, every Saturday through the fall, with plenty of convenient parking right next to it. Come on out and meet the market managers and make it a morning in Wildwood. Please feel free to contact the market managers, Rene’ and George Sackett, at marketmaster@wildwoodfarmersmarket.org, with any questions or suggestions, and visit www.wildwoodfarmersmarket.org for updates throughout the season.

This Annual National Trails Day Event is extremely popular and will fill quickly, so please, register at your first opportunity! The Greenrock Trail Challenge is capped at 150 participants. The hike can be enjoyed by anyone, of any age, but please keep in mind, it does require a reasonable fitness level. Please note, this hike is not a causal stroll on an asphalt path!! Weather/temperature and a varying terrain have great influence over the level of difficulty that might be encountered during this event. Dogs are not allowed to be part of the hike for various reasons, such as the bus ride and food heading up the list of explanations. Also, while parents are the best judge, we do not encourage carrying infants on the hike. This event can be a strenuous for some, but there is a great lunch at the end, which makes it all worth the effort!! <<< Bicycle Recycling Event >>>

It’s that time of the year again! Garages and basements are getting cleaned out and you find that bicycle that no one rides any longer! What should I do with it you ask? Well, on May 21, 2016, at Wildwood City Hall (16860 Main Street), between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (noon), the City of Wildwood and BicycleWorks will take that bicycle off your hands! BicycleWorks  is a great organization to work with! They take bicycles and bicycle parts that you might consider worthless or junk and turn them back into working bicycles! The organization provides an area for “at risk” youths to develop skills, interact with peers and caring adults, and safely challenge the limits of their abilities. They learn how to repair bicycles and, at the same time, earn a bicycle for themselves!! I’m sure you are going to find a bicycle that is simply taking up space, tires have gone flat, the chain might be broken, the gears are no longer work …. WHATEVER!! Bring the bicycle to Wildwood City Hall, on May 21, 2016, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 (noon), and give it a second life!!!  It doesn’t matter how old it is or what brand!! Questions? Call Amanda or Gary at 636-458-0440.
