Internet Access Committee (IAC) - Project UpdatesFIBER-TO-THE-PREMISE: The announcement many have waited for over the last ten plus (10+) years to hear was made at the City Council meeting on December 13, 2021. An agreement had been reached with Spectrum (Charter Communications) to provide high-speed internet access to all of the underserved and unserved areas of the City. This announcement came after two (2) years of work by the Internet Access Committee (IAC), the City Council, the Mayor, and certain providers that responded to the Request for Proposals (RFP). This outcome finally means that within a timeframe of no more twenty-four (24) months all underserved and unserved areas will have access to 21 st Century broadband speeds. The provider is now completing a design map that will indicate the planned sequencing of service installations to these identified areas. This map will be reviewed by City officials and then it will become the guide to internet access for the future. The City does anticipate this design map will be available this month for its review and acceptance.
Information regarding the rollout will be provided by Spectrum to all property owners in the areas where service will be extended and provided, along with updates from the City of Wildwood. The Ordinance supporting this service to Wildwood residents can be found by clicking on the provided link, which includes the aforementioned agreement: Internet Access Agreement. Thank you to all the people that helped along the way, and the patience of those residents, while this tough issue was addressed! HOORAY! OTHER OPTIONS: The Department continues to define other options for internet service, which are identified below: - Bays ET – Fixed wireless network service (original)
- Bays ET – Fiber-to-the-Home (only to certain areas – Hawks Rest, Homestead Estates at Wildwood, and Shiloh Subdivisions)
- Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (original)
- Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (new)
- AT&T Wireless – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
- AT&T – Non-mobile option, where property owner or subdivision compensates provider for extension of fiber optic or T1 Business Line to location(s). Dr Rambaud can provide more background and authored an e-mail in this regard.
- Verizon – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
- T-Mobile/Sprint – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
- Other Mobile Providers – Mobile communication providers, i.e., Mint Mobile, Metro, Cricket, etc. – Hotspot Use
- Satellite – Different providers
- Spectrum (Charter Communications)
- Wildwood Workspaces – 16759 Main Street, Suite 205 (co-working spaces for internet needs)
- Starlink - In the meantime, the discussions relating to the Starlink option for access to high-speed internet continue in many areas of the country. Although not fiber-to-the-home (FTTP), this service may be able to provide a bridge over an extended time gap that currently exist and could continue, until better options are available, as noted above regarding the City’s agreement with a provider of this essential service. For more information, please click on this link Starlink Information.
If you have any questions or comments about the City's initiatives on high-speed internet to certain areas of this community, please contact the Department of Planning at (636) 458-0440. Please check back regularly for updates.

Biking and Walking Benefits Program Now in WildwoodThe City of Wildwood has launched an exciting program that aims to create new and additional traffic for local businesses, while continuing to promote an active, healthy lifestyle for the community. Biking and Walking Benefits is a year-round national program in more than 100 communities across the United States that promotes active mobility through discounts/rewards to cyclists and walkers that visit local businesses. The program is very simple - individuals purchase a $5.00 helmet sticker from participating businesses and after biking or walking to a participating business, present the sticker to receive their discount/reward. If you already have a sticker from another community, just present it at a participating Wildwood business, and be sure to use your sticker to receive discounts at other area businesses. Lauren Edens, Ward 2 Council Member and the Chair of the Economic Development Committee of the Wildwood City Council, said, “this program fits perfectly with our culture and outdoor infrastructure, including our extensive trail and sidewalk network. We hope that the initial list of 10 businesses grows with more communications and outreach.” Interested businesses can participate by contacting Hugh Share, Volunteer Program Coordinator, at sharecycle08@gmail.com, or 314.486.5685. For a list of current participating businesses and their discount/reward, click this link: https://bicyclebenefits.org/cities/398.

Welcome to Wildwood, MissouriWildwood, Missouri is a unique, progressive community that is set in a magnificent natural environment, which features dense woodlands, rolling hills, beautiful valleys, lush meadows ,and crystal clear streams.
Located in West St. Louis County, just a 30 minute drive from downtown St. Louis, Wildwood is a historic community dedicated to its Master Plan, which provides for the preservation of its rural areas, while offering opportunities for residential and commercial growth. State, County and City Parks cover over 11 of the 68 square miles that forms Wildwood's municipal boundaries. The City is served by the AAA-rated Rockwood School District, St. Louis Community College at Wildwood, and has numerous recreational options as well, including an extensive trail and bikeway system, a popular snow ski/tubing and zipline resort, and a prominent equestrian community.
Wildwood incorporated on September 1, 1995; however, the community’s remarkable history does not begin there, The long and rich history of the local settlements has defined this area for many generations. The early settlements of Centaur, Fox Creek, Glencoe, Grover, Hollow, Kelpe, Melrose, Monarch, Orrville, Pond and Westland Acres continue to be discoverable today. Markers provide a brief historicity of these areas for adventurers intrigued by the past. Beyond these unique settlements, the ever-popular Historic Route 66 thoroughfare (now called Manchester Road) bisects Wildwood’s north from south, directly through the heart of the town center. This portion of Route 66 is the original location of the byway, dating back to the early 1930s. Come on out and take a nostalgic ride down old Route 66, and stay awhile and enjoy all the exciting things to do in Wildwood.

Sledding Safety Tips - Have Fun, but Be SafeWell, with all that snow out there ... enjoying is natural, but let's be careful too!. Here are some tips on sledding: - Make sure that children wear a helmet when sled riding. Many head injuries occur because children often ride headfirst.
- Always supervise young children when they sled ride.
- Teach children to roll off a sled that won’t stop. Tell them not to worry about what happens to the sled when they roll off it. You can help them retrieve it at the bottom of the hill.
- Make sure that children are dressed warmly and that they wear heavy gloves and boots to prevent cuts, bruises and frostbite. If they get wet, encourage them to come in for dry clothing.
- A “steerable” wooden sled with flexible metal runners is recommended for children ages 6 to 12 years. Inspect the sled often to make sure that it is still in good condition, and instruct children to tell you if they have an accident.
- Inner tubes, saucers and snow disks are not recommended because of their fast speed and lack of steering capability.
- Find a safe environment for children to sled ride. Avoid steep hills (the climb of the hill should be 30º or less), cliffs, rocky hills, the street, driveways, icy surfaces (you cannot steer or stop on ice) and areas with trees, walls or cars.
- Do not permit children to sled ride in dark or poorly lit areas.
- Make sure children understand that riding a sled being pulled behind a moving vehicle is extremely dangerous.
- Tell children to never ride into a snow bank – there could be hidden dangers such as a tree stump or rocks.
- Never use alcohol or drugs while sledding or while supervising children who are sledding.
Tips are courtesy of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Winter Parking and Driving Tips from the City of WildwoodHow to Keep Your Driveway Entrance From Filling with SnowThroughout the winter months, State, County, and City snowplow crews will be out clearing the highways, roads, and streets during and after each snowfall. Homeowners and other property owners will be clearing their driveways at the same time.
Many times, while this is going on, a snowplow truck will pass by and fill in the end of a freshly cleared private driveway with snow from the roadway. This is not intentional, and there is a way this wintertime inconvenience can be minimized.
The diagram above shows how you can clear snow around the end or your driveway, providing a certain way to reduce the possibility that you will have to do very much re-clearing after a snow plow truck goes by on the road next to your driveway.
The idea is to place as much snow as possible when clearing your driveway, in the direction of travel downstream on your side of the roadway. Next is to clear an area upstream from your driveway opening to form a "pocket" for the snow from the roadway to go into instead of at the end of your driveway.
The result is more of the snow accumulation from clearing the roadway will go into this open pocket area and less will wind up at the end of your driveway.
A note of caution is in order: Please be extremely careful when working next to the roadway — especially when snowplowing operations are in progress.

FROM AMEREN MISSOURI ... REPORTING POWER OUTAGESWith the current inclement weather coming, please note that, if a power outage does occur, homeowners can report it by calling 1.800.552.7583 or through our Ameren Missouri mobile app, which can be downloaded for free in the App Store on your smart phone, or at www.AmerenMissouri.com.
To receive text alerts:- For outage information we recommend everyone sign up for outage alerts by texting REG to AMEREN (263746)
- To report an outage at your address, text OUT to AMEREN (263746)
- To check the status of power at your address, text STAT to AMEREN (263746)
- For more Alerts info visit: Alerts | Ameren - Ameren.com
Additional Storm Preparation information: - Ameren Missouri prepares throughout the entire year for bad weather days.
- Winter weather, particularly ice, can be problematic. Thick ice buildup can cause power lines to fall and equipment to stop functioning.
- We actively monitor the weather through a weather service so we can allocate resources to areas of our state that might be impacted ahead of the storm.
- We are currently placing crews on standby and will deploy them to any areas sustaining outages, once it's safe for our crews to travel.
- We also position storm trailers that are packed with restoration equipment is areas that could be impacted, which saves our crews time.
- Our system is built to sustain high winds and moderate ice of an half inch or less. Ice can sometimes cause tree limbs to break and impact our lines.
- We remind customers to stay away from down power lines and report immediately by calling 800.552.7583
- Over the last several years we have been strengthening our system through our Smart Energy Plan that included stronger utility poles and power lines, and smart equipment that can detect an outage on the system and re-route a customer's power until we can make repairs.
- Customers can prepare for a potential power outage by making sure their cell phone is fully charged so they can communicate, and have a storm kit with blankets, flashlights and other emergency items.
