February 17 and 18, 2016 Open Houses

Great Rivers Greenway, the St. Louis Area’s regional greenway district, is seeking citizen input, as part of the organization’s effort to update its strategic plan, which will help guide efforts to build, promote, and sustain greenways over the next five years. All residents in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County are invited to provide feedback at one of two open house events in February. The first open house will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Bridgeton Trails Branch Library, located at 3455 McKelvey Road. A second open house will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Great Rivers Greenway’s Office, which is located in the Delmar Loop at 6178 Delmar Boulevard (intersection of Delmar and Skinker). Citizens are encouraged to drop by anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., on both nights to review displays and talk with staff. Duplicate 45-minute presentations will take place at 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

For those unable to attend either open house, an online survey will be made available February 17, 2016 through March 9, 2016. For more information, including directions by car, transit, biking, or walking, or any questions about accessibility for persons with disabilities, contact Great Rivers Greenway at (314) 436-7009 or info@grgstl.org.

Recycling Grant Provides Optional Larger Recycling Carts

If you find the 65 gallon cart to be too small for your weekly recyclables, please call Meridian Waste Services, at (314) 291-3131, and request one of the larger recycling carts.  Meridian will replace your 65 gallon recycling cart, with a new 95 gallon recycle cart, AT NO CHARGE (the old carts cannot be utilized for anything, but recycling, and will be redistributed to those needing the smaller carts).  Since quantities are limited, the larger carts will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Holiday Light Recycling

The City of Wildwood is pleased to once again partner with Meridian Waste Services’ holiday light recycling program.  No longer wanted strands of holiday lights may be placed in the dumpster supplied for this specific purpose at the end of Wildwood Avenue, which is located just to the east of the Wildwood Municipal Building.  Please do not place light strands in your regular trash, as they become tangled in the equipment at the landfills.  Please do not place them in the curbside recycling containers, since they will not be accepted in the weekly pickup.  Please help keep the City of Wildwood the eco-friendly city we are known to be by placing those unwanted light strands in the appropriate dumpster on Wildwood Avenue. This service is available through the end of February.

American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal.  Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist.  All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal.  US Flags should never be placed in the trash.

Metro Transit to Expand MetroBus Service

to State Route 109/New College Avenue

In response to requests made by both the St. Louis Community College and City of Wildwood, Metro Transit has developed a solution to extend the Maplewood-Wildwood Bus Route #57 to the intersection of State Route 109 and New College Avenue to provide better access for students and faculty at St. Louis Community College, as well as others in the area, which is set to begin on Monday, March 14, 2016.  The new route schedule would provide service to the intersection of State Route 109 and New College Avenue on weekdays only from approximately 6:15 a.m. to 10:43 p.m. Service would operate every 30 minutes during rush hour, and hourly during mid-day and evening.  The bus stop will be located along the west side of State Route 109, just north of New College Avenue.
