COMMUNITY PARK PLAYGROUND TO CLOSE
FOR NEEDED MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS
Monday, October 25 to Wednesday, October 27, 2021Access to the City's wonderful playground facility in Community Park will not be available the start of this coming week. Overall maintenance and repairs to numerous areas in the playground area are necessitating this closure. The closure will mean no access to the playground, given the type and extent of work that is planned. Please respect the closure signs and do not venture into the playground, which will only delay work and keep the facility unavailable longer. Your cooperation is very much appreciated and certainly the City is sorry for any inconvenience this closure for needed maintenance and repairs may cause you. Thank you again! |

Signatures May be Obtained on Nominating Petitions for
April 5, 2022 General Municipal Election.
Filing OPENS on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.
The City Clerk shall receive all candidates during regular office hours, in the order in which they pass through the front door of City Hall, until filing closes.
Filing CLOSES on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
No candidate's name shall be printed on any official ballot unless the candidate has filed a written Declaration of Candidacy and paid a ten dollar ($10.00) filing fee to the City Clerk or his/her designee. Payment of the filing fee may be by cash or check made payable to the City of Wildwood, Missouri.
You must meet the following Qualifications to serve as a City Council Member in the City of Wildwood:
* A registered voter.
* A resident of the ward they are seeking to represent for one (1) year prior to election and during the term of office.
Nominating Petitions:
Candidates for Council Member must submit completed Nominating Petitions on forms provided by the City Clerk. Nominating Petitions for Council Member candidates shall be signed by not less than twenty-five (25) registered voters who are residents of the ward in which the candidate is nominated. Completed Nominating Petitions must be submitted at the time of filing of a Declaration of Candidacy.
Petition signatures shall be valid only if obtained not earlier than forty-five (45) days prior to the first day of filing. Therefore, any signatures obtained prior to Saturday, October 23, 2021, are invalid. No person shall be allowed to be nominated for more than one (1) office at a time.

Town Center Public Plaza Area (221 Plaza Drive)Given the success of the 2021 Season, along with many of the vendors and other participants wanting to offer their items for patrons for the holidays, the 2nd Holiday Boutique and Artisan Fair is planned on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Location is the same place as the Farmers Market - 221 Plaza Drive.

Preserving Wildwood's Trees and Investing for the FutureOnce considered ahead of their time, the City of Wildwood's Chapter 410 Tree Preservation and Restoration Requirements, along with its associated Landscape Manual and Sustainable Plantings Guide, are now undergoing a comprehensive review after 25 years to reflect current techniques and best practices. The City of Wildwood is currently inviting residents, the development community, area agencies, and other interested parties to participate in this effort. This update process provides an opportunity to address important environmental issues impacting our woodlands, including, but not limited to: invasive species management, sustainable landscapes, native plants, development processes, and wildlife habitat.

Internet Access Committee (IAC) - Project UpdatesFIBER-TO-THE-PREMISE: The negotiations continue in this regard with the preferred provider and hopes have never been higher toward a favorable outcome, now after weeks of discussions on how best to provide Wildwood residents reliable and high-speed internet. Recent discussions continue to work toward superior service, high-speeds, reliability, scalability, low latency, and competitive costs. The influx of federal broadband funds has shifted the discussion and the City Council is taking advantage of such to complete this effort in a very successful manner.
OTHER OPTIONS: The Department continues to define other options for internet service, which are identified below:
- Bays ET – Fixed wireless network service (original)
- Bays ET – Fiber-to-the-Home (only to certain areas – Hawks Rest, Homestead Estates at Wildwood, and Shiloh Subdivisions)
- Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (original)
- Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (new)
- AT&T Wireless – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
- AT&T – Non-mobile option, where property owner or subdivision compensates provider for extension of fiber optic or T1 Business Line to location(s). Dr Rambaud can provide more background and authored an e-mail in this regard.

- T-Mobile/Sprint – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use

Biking and Walking Benefits Program Now in WildwoodThe City of Wildwood has launched an exciting new program that aims to create new and additional traffic for local businesses, while continuing to promote an active, healthy lifestyle for the community. Biking and Walking Benefits is a year-round national program in more than 100 communities across the United States that promotes active mobility through discounts/rewards to cyclists and walkers that visit local businesses.
The program is very simple - individuals purchase a $5.00 helmet sticker from participating businesses and after biking or walking to a participating business, present the sticker to receive their discount/reward. If you already have a sticker from another community, just present it at a participating Wildwood business, and be sure to use your sticker to receive discounts at other area businesses.
Lauren Edens, Ward 2 Council Member and the Chair of the Economic Development Committee of the Wildwood City Council, said, “this program fits perfectly with our culture and outdoor infrastructure, including our extensive trail and sidewalk network. We hope that the initial list of 10 businesses grows with more communications and outreach.”

Located in West St. Louis County, just a 30 minute drive from downtown St. Louis, Wildwood is a historic community dedicated to its Master Plan, which provides for the preservation of its rural areas, while offering opportunities for residential and commercial growth. State, County and City Parks cover over 11 of the 68 square miles that forms Wildwood's municipal boundaries. The City is served by the AAA-rated Rockwood School District, St. Louis Community College at Wildwood, and has numerous recreational options as well, including an extensive trail and bikeway system, a popular snow ski/tubing and zipline resort, and a prominent equestrian community.
Wildwood incorporated on September 1, 1995; however, the community’s remarkable history does not begin there, The long and rich history of the local settlements has defined this area for many generations. The early settlements of Centaur, Fox Creek, Glencoe, Grover, Hollow, Kelpe, Melrose, Monarch, Orrville, Pond and Westland Acres continue to be discoverable today. Markers provide a brief historicity of these areas for adventurers intrigued by the past. Beyond these unique settlements, the ever-popular Historic Route 66 thoroughfare (now called Manchester Road) bisects Wildwood’s north from south, directly through the heart of the town center. This portion of Route 66 is the original location of the byway, dating back to the early 1930s. Come on out and take a nostalgic ride down old Route 66, and stay awhile and enjoy all the exciting things to do in Wildwood.

Departments of Public Works and Planning/Parks<<< Sidewalk Replacements >>>Work will continue through the rest of October and into early November on the City's annual sidewalk replacement program. Locations of this work still include the following subdivisions: Evergreen, Lake Chesterfield, Nantucket, Grover Crossing, Brentmoor Place, and Arbor Chase. Please drive slow and exercise caution in all work zones, so everyone gets home safe. Thank you!
<<< Tree Removals/Plantings >>>
The 2021 Wildwood Ash Tree Removal Program began on July 6, 2021. A contracted certified arborist with Davey Resource Group evaluated all Ash Trees that exist in the City’s rights-of-way and prioritized them for removal. Through the evaluation process, the Department of Public Works has created a master list of trees to be removed through 2021 and 2022. The City has completed the removals of seventy (70) Ash Trees from the “High Priority” List. These high priority removals have been completed, with the next tier of removals already underway (medium).

THE MANORS AT THE MEADOWS OF CHERRY HILLS
'WORK IS UNDERWAY'
The long-awaited pedestrian bridge project began Wednesday, September 22, 2021, which will link the subdivisions of the Manors at the Meadows of Cherry Hills and the Manors at the Enclaves together through a system of supporting trails that are primarily already in place. DJM Ecological Services, Inc. is the contractor and the bridge and trail were partially funded by McBride Homes. |

State Highways in Wildwood - From Coffee with MayorState Route 100 and State Route 109 are maintained by the Missouri Department of Transportation. These roadways are key arterial in the City of Wildwood and carry high volumes of traffic. If you see a problem or maintenance need along them, the Missouri Department of Transportation has a "Report a Road Concern" link that works very well. LAFAYETTE OLDER ADULTS PROGRAMAfter a yearlong break due to COVID-19, L.O.A.P. meetings are back! The first meeting of the year was held on Monday, September 13, 2021.
The Lafayette Older Adults Program (L.O.A.P.) is a partnership between the Cities of Manchester, Ballwin, Chesterfield, Ellisville, Wildwood, Winchester, and the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts. If you are at least 55 years old, this program is a great way to become involved!
Participants meet the second and fourth Mondays, between September and May, from 10:00 a.m. (doors open at 9:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.). The cost is $2.00 per person, per meeting, which are held at the Ballwin Golf Course, 333 Holloway Road. Coffee, soda, and dessert are provided. All you need to bring is a sack lunch.

Virtual Class: Staying Home AloneThis (1.5 hour) class will help prepare the parent(s), child, and family for the times when children will be home alone. Parents and children attend together to ensure both parent and child can determine a child’s readiness—physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally— to stay at home alone. Families engage in workshop-style activities to address issues that arise, when preparing for this experience. A family workbook, family emergency cards, family fire escape plan, parent checklist for assessing readiness, and first-aid kit are included. $25.00 per family. Virtual Class: Babysitting 101This (2.5 hour) interactive class is a great introduction to the basics of babysitting. Topics include the business of babysitting, child development, and behavior, as well as basic childcare. Participants learn how to change a diaper, bottle feeding techniques, safety and first aid, and how to choose fun games that are age appropriate for kids. A workbook, first-aid kit, and a backpack is provided. This class may also meet Scout badge requirements. $25.00 per child. SENIOR YOGA CLASS ... THE DETAILSYou can now attend these sessions in-person, but they will also be accessible online from the comfort of your own home. You must register one (1) day in advance of the class date and choose to attend either in person or online (not both).
In-person classes will be held at Wildwood Yoga and Wellness’s new location at 2642 Highway 109, Suite B, in Wildwood. On-line Classes will be held via zoom, further instructions will be e-mailed to you, if attending online.
These classes are FREE for Wildwood residents, and only $5.00 for non-residents, age 60+!
Tuesday’s Class: Senior Chair Yoga (Restore Practice)
Using a chair or a completely supported posture, this practice will target mobility and flexibility of both the body and the mind. With a strong focus on the breath and gentle movement, this practice will explore qualities of a restorative (restful) practice, a yin (longer-holding) practice, and yoga Nidra (guided meditation).
Friday’s Class: Senior Slow Flow Yoga
A meditative flow based on a steady, rhythmic breath, and traditional yoga postures. The flow will incorporate mindful, smooth transitions and holds designed to open the body and the mind. This practice will build strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, and confidence and is ideal for practitioners that are comfortable standing.

Available at City Hall - Main Street Level - Lobby AreaBring your expired/unused prescription medications to City Hall during normal business hours (Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and deposit them in the take-back box. There is no need for any assistance from the police. This easy and safe approach keeps old or unused medications from the environment and out of the hands of children. |

Wildwood Area Lions Club
Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids - Drop-Off Box @ City HallThe Wildwood Area Lions Club has a drop-off box at Wildwood City Hall (16860 Main Street, 63040) for used eyeglasses and hearing aids that are provided to others that cannot access them for a number of reasons. Don't throw them away - please donate - and help others in need!
The Wildwood Area Lions Club was chartered by Lions International and is a non-profit organization by the State of Missouri, circa June 2009. Lions Clubs support the Wildwood Area by providing assistance through actions and monetary funding. Lions International has 1.35 million members in 205 countries and regions worldwide. The international foundation has awarded more than $700 million for humanitarian service projects worldwide and provides disaster relief, youth programs, and help to combat disabilities, where needed. |

American Flag Disposal
Service is for Wildwood Residents and Businesses OnlyThe City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal. Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist. All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal. US Flags should never be placed in the trash. |

Shoeman Water Project No Longer Offered @ City HallCity Hall is no longer a drop-off location for new or gently used shoes. The Shoeman Water Project ended in August 2020 and, again, no shoes are being accepted by the City. Please consider bringing your shoes to a local thrift store. Thank you for your cooperation. |
