<<< Asphalt Re-Surfacing Program - 2021 >>>

The locations for 2021 include the following: Woods Avenue, Model Realty Company Road, and Ossenfort Road, from Highway T to Wild Horse Creek Road. When the resurfacing of these roadways begin, expect certain delays in those areas and please respect workers' safety and go slow. It is much appreciated by all.

<<< Other Roadway Work & Tree Planting >>>

Roundabouts, Manuevering & Wildwood

Driving in circles can be a good thing, if it means you get where you want to go quicker and safer. That’s why the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is using roundabouts as a way to manage traffic at some intersections.

A roundabout is a one-way circular intersection that channels traffic around a central island without traffic signals. Roundabouts are a great alternative to a signalized intersection, when a high volume of traffic needs to get through with the least amount of inconvenience. For a video of roundabouts from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), click on this link - Roundabouts. For another video, from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), just click here: More Information on Roundabouts.

While signalized intersections have twenty (20) conflict points, or spots where vehicles could collide, roundabouts reduce that number to eight. Fewer conflict points, combined with slower speeds and calmer traffic, can translate into as much as 75 percent fewer crashes. Because roundabouts tend to have fewer severe crashes than signalized intersections, they have fewer crash-related injuries as well.

Internet Access Committee (IAC) - Project Updates

FIBER-TO-THE-PREMISE - #1: The Mayor, along with City Team Members, continue to work toward a long-term solution to the City’s internet needs. Good progress is being made and discussions continue. The allocation of funding by City Council has been a game changer in this regard.

NETWORK IMPROVEMENTS - #2: While these negotiations are on-going, with the hope for solutions soon, the City Administrator and the Department of Planning continue to talk with the owner of Bays ET relative to its current system of service in Wildwood, and planned upgrades that are underway for the same. Specifically, these conversations focused on the status of several projects and how best to accelerate their completion for residents needing internet or improvements to current service levels. These projects include the fiber-to-the-premise for the Homestead Estates at Wildwood and Shiloh Subdivisions, the Woodlands Area, the Melrose Road/Summit View Place/Shady Glen Estates Area, and the Hawks Rest Subdivision. The results of these conversations are summarized below:
  1. The Homestead Estates at Wildwood and Shiloh Subdivisions: The owner of Bays ET noted the following steps remain for the completion of the installation of fiber-to-the-premise network for these two (2) subdivisions:
    • Aerial installation of the fiber lines along Rieger and Wild Horse Creek Roads is underway on Rieger Road
    • Drill teams have been working on Rieger and Wild Horse Creek Roads and approximately one hundred (100) feet of bore remains to be completed.
  2. The Woodlands Area:
    • Utility locates were completed, which allowed the boring work to proceed.
    • Boring of the conduit for the fiber connection to existing internet poles is underway, but slow, given a very hard rock formation is leading to slow progress. Expectations of Bays ET in this regard are several more days, then a simple bore under State Route 100 to connect to the backbone fiber located in its vicinity.
    • Work was anticipated to be completed in two (2) to three (3) weeks from last update, but utility locates did take longer to complete, so additional time is anticipated.
    • Additional poles are also being studied to expand service.
  3. The Melrose Road/Summit View Place/Shady Glen Estates Area:
    • System infrastructure is completed. Customer modems are being upgraded at this time (up to 300 Mbps via wireless).
  4. Hawks Rest Subdivision:
    • Internet speeds, with fiber-to-the-premise, are now nearing one (1) gigabyte for downloads.
Along with these considerations, the Department continues to define other options for internet service, which are identified below:
  1. Bays ET – Fixed wireless network service (original)
  2. Bays ET – Fiber-to-the-Home (only to certain areas – Hawks Rest, Homestead Estates at Wildwood, and Shiloh Subdivisions)
  3. Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (original)

This app helps to understand service delays due to weather conditions on the roads and streets throughout the City. You can also setup notifications for reminders to place your receptacles out at the curb as well.

SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING

Since August 2019, Waste Connections has been the hauler for all residential properties in the City of Wildwood, which also has included the return of single-stream recycling. Single-stream recycling allows residents to place all recyclable materials in a single container for curbside pickup by the hauler. Waste Connection accepts glass, as part of the new recycling stream, so it can be placed in the toters for pickup. Any questions on recycling can be addressed by visiting the Waste Connections website, which can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.wasteconnections.com.

The City of Wildwood and Waste Connections are also providing a location where additional options for the drop-off of extra fiber materials and glass can be accommodated. This location is at the terminus of Wildwood Avenue (between City Hall and the B&B Theatre (63040)).

If you have any other questions, please contact us at recycling@cityofwildwood.com or visit the recycling page of our website: Recycling Information.
