<< COVID-19 INFORMATION >>

COVID-19: Operational Procedures and Information - City of Wildwood, Mo.

<< COVID-19 Operational Procedures and Information >>

The intent of the Public Health Orders and their amendments are to limit the transmission of COVID-19 by encouraging people to avoid all unnecessary interactions by staying at home to the extent possible. Employers are encouraged to support telework whenever feasible. These orders have been part of an effort to continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 within St. Louis County to protect life and hospital capacity. When people leave their place of residence, they should at all times reasonably comply with Face Covering and Social Distancing Requirements.

G
uidelines for restaurants and bars can be found online here stlcorona.com. It’s important to note that these policy changes are due to the number of cases going in the right direction and everyone needs to understand that indoor dining continues to pose substantial risks to both patrons and employees.

The City continues to closely monitor the coronavirus situation and has a section of its website dedicated to this issue. There is helpful information for residents and businesses, including: local restaurant information; impact on parks, trails, and events; public meeting modifications; links to health organizations; and lots more! Visit the page here: https://www.cityofwildwood.com/1960/COVID-19.

Given the importance of accurate and timely information about current conditions, the City of Wildwood's e-newsletter will limit its dissemination of information to those links of specific governments and agencies that are responsible for the safety and well-being of us all during this health emergency. These agencies, and associated websites, provide you the latest and most needed information on COVID-19 and, again, can be quickly accessed by clicking on the provided links below:

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services - (

Please note the flow and content of information on this situation is constantly changing, so please check back often to the provided websites for the latest on COVID-19.

MASKS AND THEIR ROLE IN BEATING BACK COVID-19

Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people, when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This barrier created by a mask is called source control. This recommendation is based on what the medical community knows about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows masks reduce the spray of droplets, when worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of masks is particularly important in settings, where people are close to each other, or where social distancing is difficult to maintain.

COVID-19: Considerations for Wearing Cloth Face Coverings | CDC
  • CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
  • Masks may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
  • Masks are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19, when they are widely used by people in public settings.
  • Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
Park and Playground Updates

Status of Park Facilities - April 30, 2021
* No Change in Status *

All City playground areas (Community Park, Anniversary Park, Glencoe City Park, Old Pond School Park, and, now, Green Pines Park) remain open at this time. Please follow the rules posted at each of these playgrounds, so we all can have fun and see friends again, but stay safe and healthy. It is important to state that, unless exempted from such, all persons at any of the City's playground facilities wear a mask. Non-compliance creates higher than acceptable risks and could lead to the playgrounds being closed again (please see below for more information).

Playground Signs for COVID - 19

Help Keep our Community Safe:

  • Please maintain 6 feet of social distance from others, whenever possible.
  • Please sanitize hands before entering the playground and upon exiting the playground.
  • Playground equipment, tables, and benches are not regularly disinfected.
  • Please wear protective masks, unless exempted.

We thank you for your cooperation!

Rally for Retail - City of Wildwood

RALLY FOR RETAIL IN WILDWOOD

In partnership with its local businesses, the City has launched a “Rally for Retail” Campaign to help support Wildwood retailers during the current environment.

Pure By Jen, a local Wildwood boutique, recommended this new effort in order to encourage community members to virtually “shop” at their favorite local brick-and-mortar stores by purchasing GIFT CARDS. Purchasing these online gift cards now will help to keep as many Wildwood retailers as possible in business, so that they can reopen their doors, when this crisis passes.

A list of those businesses offering gift cards is posted on the COVID-19 Page of the City's website at the following link for your use - https://www.cityofwildwood.com/1977/Rally-for-Retail. Thank you for shopping local and supporting our Wildwood retailers!

Internet Access Committee (IAC) - Project Updates

FIBER-TO-THE-PREMISE - #1: City officials have spent the least two (2) weeks discussing the funding of an internet solution for Wildwood. This discussion has taken on greater urgency with the City Council's strategic planning efforts underway at this time and spoken concerns about allocating any funding in the future to other priority areas, when the current internet conditions within the City are obviously less than satisfactory. The City Council has been seeking more streamlined presentations of the final proposals than currently in-hand from the three (3) respondents that had been selected by the Internet Access Committee, which would then allow Members to know the final and true extent of the funding that is needed to resolve this matter. Such proposals were discussed and a workable option was identified by the City's consultants in this regard – CTC Technology and Energy.

This option was being pursued, when an item was identified that needed further conversations with the consultant team. Therefore, the option that was being studied for use was temporarily set aside to allow for a more pressing issue to be addressed regarding funding, regardless of which the providers that might be selected. The City Attorney, the City Administrator, and the Department of Planning discussed this matter and then also included the City’s financial advisor in this conversation to better understand different approaches and, more importantly, potential impediments to the current offerings that had been submitted by the three (3) providers. The financial adviser identified the best option for the City in regards to funding, outside a grant or grants from the federal of State governments through many of the current economic development recovery programs. That option was then presented to the consultant team, which was asked to present it to the three (3) respondents. The initial feedback from the first respondent contacted was positive regarding the same. This positive feedback was essential to continuing in this selected direction.

Now with this consideration addressed, the consultant team is back working on the best approach to draw the best proposals from the three (3) respondents, with the most favorable conditions for Wildwood residents relative to speeds, costs, and service considerations. This item will be reviewed in detail by the City Council. Suffice to say, if federal or State grants are not made available to locales like the City of Wildwood, a plan is now available to consider more traditional sources of funding that are consistent with State law in this regard.

FIBER-TO-THE-PREMISE - #2: Bays ET, with better weather and less COVID-19 infections, has completed the main lines within both the Homestead Estates at Wildwood and Shiloh Subdivisions. The aerial installations along Rieger Road and Wild Horse Creek Road are slated to begin the week of April 26th and, for a project of this nature, will conservatively require about three (3) to four (4) weeks to complete. The aerial work will be terminated at the new backhaul location the City prepared for this purpose on its property that is located on Old Wild Horse Creek Road and Wild Horse Creek Road. Speeds from this service, which is already available in the Hawks Rest Subdivision, are anticipated to be close to one (1) gigabyte for downloads (very fast!).

OTHER UPGRADES – Work is also underway by Bays ET in the Stonesthrow, Whittsett’s Fork, and the Summit View Subdivisions to add a new type of high-speed wireless solution that can offer speeds up to three hundred (300) megabytes for downloads. This system is line-of-sight, but will offer many households already on Bays ET’s fixed wireless network another option, but at much faster speeds. Again, all of this work is being completed by Bays ET, with minimal requested assistance from the City of Wildwood.

Along with these considerations, the Department continues to define other options for internet service, which are identified below:
  1. Bays ET – Fixed wireless network service (original)
  2. Bays ET – Fiber-to-the-Home (only to certain areas – Hawks Rest, Homestead Estates at Wildwood, and Shiloh Subdivisions)
  3. Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (original)
  4. Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (new)
  5. AT&T Wireless – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
  6. AT&T – Non-mobile option, where property owner or subdivision compensates provider for extension of fiber optic or T1 Business Line to location(s). Dr Rambaud can provide more background and authored an e-mail in this regard.
  7. Verizon – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
  8. T-Mobile/Sprint – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use
  9. Other Mobile Providers – Mobile communication providers, i.e., Mint Mobile, Metro, Cricket, etc. – Hotspot Use
  10. Satellite – Different providers
  11. Spectrum (Charter Communications)
  12. Wildwood Workspaces – 16759 Main Street, Suite 205 (co-working spaces for internet needs)
  13. Rockwood School District (offers hotspots for students of the district).
If you have any questions or comments about the City's initiatives on high-speed internet to certain areas of this community, please contact the Department of Planning at (636) 458-0440. Please check back regularly for updates.
