Within the next couple of weeks, the intersection of Nantucket Island Drive and Old State Spur is planned for concrete pavement replacement, and the City intends to reconstruct the intersection as a roundabout to better handle the flow of traffic. The roundabout will be similar to those constructed within the Enclaves at Cherry Hills development, only slightly smaller in size due to right-of-way constraints. Additionally, the stamped concrete surfaces are not being utilized due to problems encountered with this product in the past.
Work is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of June 16, 2014, which will be focused on the pavement reconstruction at the southeast quadrant of the intersection. Once this phase is completed, the full intersection is expected be closed the week of June 23, 2014 (except that access will be maintained for Brighton Place Subdivision via the new pavement constructed as part of the first phase of construction). Nantucket and Enclaves at Cherry Hills residents will need to utilize other routes during the closure, which the City hopes can be limited to approximately one week.
The City’s contractor will install signage and other traffic control devices to direct traffic as necessary during the project. Should you have any questions regarding the project, please contact the Department of Public Works at (636) 458-0440.
