UPDATE: Due to the flooding on the Meramec River and closures expected on Route 109 and I-44, the Woods Road Closure is being postponed to May 8, 2017.
The City’s contractor, Gershenson Construction, is about to begin a project to replace the first bridge west of Route 109 on Woods Road. The project will replace the existing, substandard bridge with a new structure consisting of two 12’ driving lanes with an 8’ sidewalk separated from the driving lanes with concrete barrier wall. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 24, 2017, weather permitting.
Woods Road is scheduled to be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC at the bridge location beginning at 7:00 am on MAY 1, 2017 and will remain closed until AUGUST 15, 2017. Detour signs and other advance warning signs will be in place during construction. An electronic message sign has been on Woods Road in advance of the bridge for the past two weeks to notify motorists of the May 1 closure. For the detour route, motorists will be directed to use Route 109 to Manchester Road to Melrose Road. The Rockwoods Reservation entrance off Manchester Road at the north end of Glencoe Road will remain open during the Woods Road closure for access to the Reservation.
Rockwoods Reservation is expected to open the Glencoe Road bridge that is currently closed near their south entrance prior to May 1. If the Glencoe Bridge is not completed, the Woods Road closure will be delayed as necessary so that both bridges are not closed at the same time. Additional information will be posted if the Woods Road closure is delayed due to delays on the Glencoe Road Bridge.
